Week 2 Practical
LECTURE
In this topic, the lecturer introduce us to composition and their
techniques. There are several things to highlight in basic composition
: Focal Point (key elements), Scale&Hierarchy (attention towards/away), Balancing Elements (weight), White Spacing(empty space). Below are some techniques that must be taken into consider in
composition :
1. Rule of third
a process to divide an image into thirds using two horizontal and two
vertical lines using imaginary grids. This rule creates a more natural image
when we position our elements at the intersection points inside
it.
- to please our eyes natural views
- creatively use negative space
- create links between subject and background.
ex. pov, etc.
2. Golden Ratio
This technique generates a good sense harmony and proportion that its
aesthetics to human eyes. Provide a sense of artistry. This design commonly
use in determining dimensions in layout and movement.
3. Composition (Framing&Cropping)

The lecturer told us to watch the demo video to complete our physical collage exercise.
PRACTICAL
INSTRUCTION:
1. Choose and identify your collage's design elements to be cut out and compose it into your own concept & story.
2. Pre compositing your collage's design elements into a composition.
