01: Proposal

02: Visual Research & Exploration

fig 1.1 'Festival Mutante' Key Artwork

Festival Mutante is a music festival that propose new musical proposals, along with illustration fair inside the event. This particular festival on research so far is a pretty new one. They just started the annual festival recently which is last year, 2022. The festival came from Argentina in a rise of creating a unique artistic experience by meeting producers, musicians together in a festival. It was mentioned in the article that they promote 'independent culture' which in means it support the individual artists, musician and producers to meet in one place and collaborate with each other.

The concept design for the release of Festival Mutante is featured in Behance, it was posted by the design agency. First, the design is really vibrant, they try to utilise a wide range of colours on their design and making expressive illustration from the font shape to widen their identity. This was chosen probably to suit its aim to make festival that brings a diverse range of people who act in music. Uniquely the use of san serif and expressive typeface is suited really well on their design. The san serif brings clarity, modernness to the overall design. And for shapes they keenly towards a cloud and spiky shapes that in a way give an excitement feel. They mostly utilise the brand's collateral for digital promotion. Such as, line up poster, motion design, and online poster. I barely can found any actual ticket or banner. But, I found they make the 'mutante' balloon on the stage. The figure below shows how the festival being held with music performances and some illustration fair going on:

Here, on the 2023 project which is still upcoming on July, they try to expand the identity by adding 3d illustration characters which still resemble their previous shapes. The color palette also still the same to maintain their identity.

The idea here is to develop a full typeface for the festival mutante and making a concept for their festival that will be held on 2024. My idea is to use the same balloon like fonts that is inspired by a designer name. I'm taking 2 letterforms from the poster they had and taking the one that I feel has the most unique shapes. Which is in this case, those are the capital 'A,E.' From here I'll try to build the other typeface by myself.

FEEDBACK

Specific: For task 3, the first idea I need to check the typeface is it already available or not. If yes I can later make the letterforms and utilise it as advertising. For, the second idea rather than using the entire key art work I can just take one or two characters and develop the other letters by myself.

General: We can go to the reading material and see samples of good typeface application being implemented. On the letterform, ‘V’ we’ve got to pay attention to the thickness as it tends to get heavier on the bottom side. It’s good to always have references. 1000 total height. The width between the monospace and the letter can have the same thickness
Specific: Be mindful with the gap, make sure to make it a part of the shape and transparent. Digitalise most of the work by next week.

General: Kindly check link provided on how to make punctuations. We can use other applications other than fontlab which is font forge. Tutorial: https://rhyanneclowe.blogspot.com/2021/05/advanced-typo-final-project.html In fontlab8 when we copy paste sometimes they dont retain the shape, so have to set it in preferences.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3nh0DCsOzA
Specific: Forms are okay, just need to complete it.
