Task 3B: Type Design & Communication
1. Visual Research and Sketch

In this final task, we are asked to design a telegram sticker with a theme of celebration day and it has to be simply animated as well. I choose "Happy Birthday" as I feel more familiar with event and quite common to use by many people. Fig 1 and 2 are the research that I conduct before designing my sticker. I notice element like ballon, confetti, or candle are abundantly found in this type of sticker. Therefore, I came up with some following ideas.
Fig.3 Typeface showcase for "Happy Birthday" 03 Nov.2021
Before I actually started sketching out my ideas, It was suggested to make a showcase from the 10 compulsory typefaces therefore we would know the direction of design that we want to create.
Fig.4 Sketch 03 Nov.2021
Out the 4 sketches that I did the one that use ITC Garamound STD being the most acceptable. The idea for this particular design was clearer with the concept of making every single later a balloon. However, later it was suggested for me to make an actual oval balloon with the word masked on top of it.
2. Digitalisation
Fig. 6 1st Sticker Design Attempt 09 Nov.2021
The below sticker design in fig.6 was based on sketch and some feedbacks that I got. I also placed the Taylor's logo inside the full stop for this design to fit the space. Although, there is some problems with this design that needed to be fixed.

After receiving some feedbacks from the lecturer. I mix m match the typefaces first again. The feedback was for me to use a condensed bold typeface to increase readability and I was torn between Univers Bold Condensed or Futura - Extra Bold as the height of the words match the shape of the balloon and fit perfectly with the space. However, I choose to use Futura - Extra Bold at the end as it gave more bubbly feeling rather than Univers typeface.

Fig. 9 Color Revision for 1st Outline 15 Nov.2021
I did some more research for the color palette and comes down sequences in Fig.8. The color here has more variety and vibrant color compare to the one in Fig. 6. I also found that for the 1st Outline of the sticker would be better with black color as it brings the words and balloon's shape more popped out rather than the white outline as shown in Fig.9. The white outline looks too overwhelming and making the sticker seems flat and give less dimension to it. Hence, my decision to use the black outline.
Fig.10 2nd Outline Added 16 Nov.2021
There was some issues too with using black outline. One the balloon's strings cannot be seen in the gif and night mode format in Telegram. Two, the lecturer suggest us to give a white outline for the final sticker design. Therefore, I came to a conclusion of adding a second outline for each of the balloon so I still maintain my black outline in a way.

Here is how the sticker looks like in the Telegram.
Fig.13 Keyframe showcase 15 Nov.2021
My aim is to create a floating balloon animation therefore I played with the position in After Effects. I started the height for all the balloon from under the canvas and last keyframe being position on their original position. I also added some keyframe between and making a lil bit movement to left or right. This little adjustment could create more diversity to the animation.

The Exporting part was quiet time texting as I had first render the file as mov - animation in Media Encoder Queue. Then, I import the animation to Photoshop to create loop gif animation.

FEEDBACK
Week 11
General feedback: Try to fit the entire design in the canvas.
Specific feedback: Out of the 4 Sketches that I suggested, the one with balloon ideas have more expression and acceptable design. Use extra bold typeface. Make a proper balloon shape for individual word. Can use B'day to save space.
Week 12
General feedback: Use white outline for the stickers. For the animation can export it as GIF ANIMATION.
Specific feedback: The balloon tails can be extended and less squiggly. Explore more colors combinations for the sticker. Font suggested to use a more bold condensed typeface to enhance the wording inside the balloon.
REFLECTION
Experience: To be honest, this task is currently the fastest one that I have finished so far compare to previous tasks. I also gave more details with the work therefore I am satisfied with the outcome. Also, I have been wanting to know how to make stickers and finally I got to learn some basics knowledge for it! To sum up, this task was pretty fun and quite complicated but so far I enjoyed it the most.
Observation: We got to like/satisfied the design that we are making to be able continue the work. Also, through this task we have to sneak a Taylor's logo in our sticker design and it took quite many experiment to come with a good one.
Findings: Discovering how to install a sticker in telegram surprisingly quite simple. It only requires a PNG Sticker design with dimension 512x512 px and thats all. I also got more familiar with Adobe After Effects as this is my second time using it.

Typographic Design Education Chapter provides many study example that can be conducted by student to practice their design sensitivity. Calendar deconstruction is one of it. This activity limits the usage of typography, rules, colors and it helps student to notice the interrelationships between graphic elements and the surrounding space, grid construction and usage, and sequence.
Typographic process and the computer
Hybrid Problem Solving Methods.
- Sketch>redraw in computer>back to manual coloring again>scan to computer for final product.
Designers can use any sort of methods to create their works as long as it achieve effectivity and creative solution.
Computer also come in hand when it comes to archiving works. Designers must know how to do file management therefore when it comes to reference towards their past works they can deliver the process more diligently.
